Rubber Demattia tester working principle
Vulcanized rubber is subject to repeated flexion and cracking occurs in a certain area of the surface due to stress concentration. If there is a crack in this part of the surface, it will cause the crack to expand in the direction perpendicular to the stress. Some soft vulcanizates, especially those produced from styrene-butadiene rubber, show obvious initial cracking resistance. However, once the gap is formed, the expansion speed is faster. Therefore, it is important to determine the resistance to crack initiation and crack growth by bending.
